Cloud Pictures

We take cloud pictures whenever we see them, and in New Mexico that means frequently.  The is nothing like living in country where high elevation and panoramic vistas make cloud watching really special.  during the summer "Monsoon" season thunder storm cells move across the valley between us and the hills on the other side.  You can see the lightning strikes and feel the thunder.  Sometimes you can even smell the ozone.

Storms are not the only weather conditions which produce good cloud  pictures.  Dust storms loft small dust particles high into the air where they color the light red at dawn and dusk.  In 2005 and probably in 2006 the light was also changed by high level smoke particles from burning forests.

Techniques & Technology

I got my first camera (a Nikkormat) in 1965 and have been taking pictures ever since.  We took slides for many years and then converted to film.  We finally made the move to digital and are still in the conversion process.  This and related sites are being built by converting our huge collection of negatives to digital, editing them with Photoshop, and building websites based on the pictures and our experiences taking them.  It's a lot of work so it will be a while before these sites can be considered a finished project.  We think there is a lot to enjoy in the meantime through.
